The client had been insured through an online provider. He had previously informed the insurer that he was dyslexic and found online portals difficult to manage, particularly where usernames and passwords were required. He had been assured that correspondence would be sent directly via email. Unfortunately, this agreement was not followed. Important documentation was instead uploaded to an online portal, and when the client did not access it, one of his commercial vehicle policies was cancelled for non-payment. A few days later, he received notification of the cancellation. When he contacted the insurer to explain the situation, they refused to reinstate the policy. When he visited our office at Bedale Hall, we carried out a full review of his remaining vehicle cover. During this review, we discovered that both policies had been arranged using his lower-risk, part-time occupation, while completely omitting his full-time occupation, which is considered higher risk and can be more difficult to insure. This raised serious concerns. If a claim had arisen, there was a real risk that it may not have been paid due to incorrect disclosure. The client was understandably upset and concerned about the implications. Most importantly, he wanted reassurance, clarity, and the opportunity to speak directly with someone who would take the time to understand his circumstances.

We arranged a face-to-face meeting at our office to assess his full insurance needs properly. As part of our solution, we: Arranged a business mini fleet policy covering both commercial vehicles under one structured arrangement Made full disclosure to the new insurer regarding the previous cancellation, confirming that it was through no fault of the client Ensured accurate disclosure of both his main and part-time occupations Arranged an additional policy to protect against his high excess, which had increased due to his occupation Every element of the policy was discussed clearly and transparently. We ensured the insurer understood the full risk profile so that the client would be properly protected in the event of a claim. To accommodate his work commitments, we also arranged meetings outside of standard working hours, including a weekend appointment, so cover could be put in place as quickly as possible.
